To commemorate the thirtieth entry into the Blue Series catalogue, DJ Spooky has cooked up a special new double CD. With the entire Blue Series spread out before him, Spooky has expertly sorted, sifted, chopped and recombined this vast amount of music into a shining new work that teases out the lines between jazz and hip-hop, and then obliterates those lines. The result is Celestial Mechanix: The Blue Series MasterMix, a no-holds-barred re-envisioning of some of the most visionary jazz of the 21st Century. From the subtly funky drumming of Hamid Drake to the unshakeable basslines of William Parker, the intense lyricism of Matthew Shipp's piano to the hefty beats of El-P, nothing is off limits. Augmented by some of Spooky's favorite avant-garde MCs, including Antipop Consortium, Saul Williams and Carl Hancock Rux, Celestial Mechanix represents a new level of sonic architecture. Disc One features DJ Spooky's Blue Series remixes, while Disc Two is a 35-track continuous MasterMix of Blue Series recordings.
